The Kaduna State House of Representatives has on Friday 7th of June, 2019, passed the 1984 Regulation Bill for Religious Preaching into law.
The Regulation Bill, is to help control Religious Preaching in Kaduna State, with the view of enhancing religious harmony, and to ensure peace and unity among the inhabitants of the state.
Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Shagalli, speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly, said that, the bill when passed into law, indicates that a committee which will be known as the Local Government Inter-Faith be established in each LGAs of the state.
He further said that, the committee be recommended to a Inter-Faith regulation body who will carry out certain actions which includes stating all applications for the giving of license to religious preachers, and as well as checking and recommending religious preachers qualified for the grant of license and other activities.
The additional provision stated the use of compact disks (CDs), cassettes, flash drives, music players, and every other musical gadgets containing religious messages, preaching or recordings are allowed in private dwelling places or church, vehicles, Mosque, and any other ideal place of worship.
It further revealed that anyone who seen playing religious cassettes or uses megaphone, or a loudspeaker in public places for religious reasons between the hours of 11pm in the evening to 4am in the morning and also uses a loudspeaker for religious purpose publicly, other than inside the Mosque or Church is guilty of an offence, and shall be convicted and liable for jail, for a jail term not less than 2 years, or alternatively pay a fine of not less than #200,000.00 or both as the case may be.
